Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the inclusion of tea and plantation-class land holdings in the state’s Farmers’ Registry Portal. This move is hailed as a significant step for small tea growers, granting them access to various government benefits through a unified platform.
Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the importance of this decision for Assam’s tea-growing community, especially the numerous small tea cultivators. By obtaining a unique Farmer ID through this inclusion, small tea growers can now seamlessly access government welfare schemes and fertilizers as part of the digital agriculture ecosystem.
The integration of tea plantation land records into the Farmers’ Registry is expected to enhance transparency in agricultural services delivery. This initiative aims to streamline direct benefit transfers and improve the implementation of government support programs for the tea-growing sector in Assam.
CM Sarma highlighted that this step will also facilitate better access to institutional credit for small tea growers, reducing their reliance on informal lenders. Moreover, by eliminating middlemen, the new system aims to ensure that small tea growers can fully benefit from government assistance and financial services.
