Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state government is conducting a detailed assessment of government land in and around Guwahati. The aim is to safeguard it for future developmental projects, educational institutions, and industrial infrastructure. During a visit to the Jagiroad Assembly constituency, Sarma mentioned the identification of significant land areas in the Dharamtul region and nearby areas for potential public use in the upcoming years.
Sarma highlighted the ongoing review of available government land in places like Jagiroad and Dharamtul. He emphasized the potential establishment of various institutions, industrial estates, educational facilities, and other government amenities on these lands. The Chief Minister stressed the immediate priority of protecting these land parcels from encroachment and unplanned utilization.
The government’s focus is on conserving government land, especially in the vicinity of Guwahati, to prevent encroachment. Sarma personally inspected nearly 300 bighas of government land in the area to ensure its protection. He clarified that while no specific projects have been finalized for the identified land, the current emphasis is on conservation and strategic planning.
Officials accompanying the Chief Minister mentioned the intensified efforts by the government to map and secure state-owned land, particularly in rapidly urbanizing areas near Guwahati. This move comes amidst increasing pressure from real estate expansion and encroachments. Assam has witnessed various infrastructure and industrial initiatives in recent years to enhance economic activities in central Assam and the Guwahati metropolitan region.
Jagiroad has garnered attention due to its strategic connectivity and proximity to the state capital, making it a key focus area for development. Sarma indicated a shift away from political discussions post-elections, emphasizing a focus on governance and development-related tasks.
