Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership following the successful conclusion of a uranium export agreement between India and Australia. CM Sarma highlighted the significant shift in bilateral relations over the past decade, attributing it to what he called “the Modi difference.”
In a social media post, CM Sarma contrasted Australia’s refusal in 2010 to sell uranium to India due to non-membership in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty with the recent agreement reached during PM Modi’s visit. He emphasized the importance of choosing the right leadership, sharing a graphic comparing the two developments.
The uranium export pact is seen as a milestone in the deepening India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, encompassing cooperation in critical minerals, clean energy, defense, trade, and the Indo-Pacific region. This agreement is expected to enhance India’s energy security by supporting its civilian nuclear power program with access to Australia’s vast uranium reserves.
CM Sarma has been actively using social media to highlight the achievements of the Modi government in various areas, including foreign policy, infrastructure development, and economic reforms. The recent post by CM Sarma aligns with the BJP’s renewed political messaging against the opposition, emphasizing India’s strengthened global standing under PM Modi’s leadership.
