Guwahati, Aug 7 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday praised personnel of the state Power Department for their relentless efforts to restore electricity in flood-affected areas, saying the teams were using “every possible means” to reconnect damaged transformers and bring the power grid back online despite challenging conditions.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister commended engineers, technicians and field staff working in inundated areas to restore essential services as floodwaters continue to affect several parts of the state.
“A shout out to our Power Department teams, who are using every possible means to reconnect transformers and bring the grid back online,” Sarma said, acknowledging the tireless efforts of frontline workers engaged in repairing damaged power infrastructure.
The Chief Minister also praised the resilience of Assam’s energy infrastructure, noting that despite being subjected to unprecedented floodwaters, much of the network had withstood the crisis.
“Equally remarkable is the resilience of our energy infrastructure, which has withstood these unprecedented floodwaters,” he said.
Large parts of Assam have witnessed heavy rainfall and flooding over the past several weeks, leading to damage to roads, bridges, embankments and electricity infrastructure in several districts.
Floodwaters and strong currents disrupted power supply in many localities after transformers, poles and distribution lines were either submerged or damaged.
Power restoration teams have been working round the clock to reconnect affected areas, often operating under difficult conditions in waterlogged locations.
Electricity utilities have prioritised restoration in hospitals, relief camps, drinking water facilities and other critical installations while gradually extending supply to residential areas as floodwaters recede.
The state government has maintained that restoring essential services remains a key priority alongside rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations in flood-hit districts.
Sarma’s appreciation comes as multiple government departments continue coordinated efforts to normalise public services, with restoration of electricity considered crucial for relief operations, communication networks and the return of normal life in the flood-affected regions.
