Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the decision of over 800 Eidgah committees in the state to advocate for limitations on cow slaughter before Eid. Sarma highlighted this move as crucial for fostering communal harmony and peaceful coexistence in Assam.

Speaking to the press, Sarma acknowledged the voluntary choice of many Muslims in Assam to refrain from sacrificing cows during the upcoming festival, showing respect for the sentiments of the Hindu community. He urged individuals planning animal sacrifices to avoid Hindu-majority areas during the festivities, emphasizing that legal action would be taken for any violations.

The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the support of more than 800 Eidgah Committees in Assam in favor of restricting cow slaughter before Eid-ul-Zuha. Sarma emphasized that honoring the beliefs of the majority community would significantly contribute to maintaining peace and stability in the state.

The issue of cow slaughter during Eid has been a sensitive topic in Assam, with the government emphasizing the importance of upholding communal harmony and adhering to the Assam Cattle Preservation Act. Security measures have been heightened in various districts ahead of Eid-ul-Zuha celebrations to prevent any potential disturbances.
