Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) organized a protest rally in Guwahati calling for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s immediate resignation due to the alleged NEET examination scandal. Led by Wazed Ali Choudhury, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Assembly, the rally highlighted concerns over transparency in the medical entrance exam’s conduct. The protesters insisted on Pradhan stepping down to take “moral responsibility” for the NEET controversy.
Several Congress legislators, including Deputy Leader of the Opposition Dr. Jayanta Prakash Das and MLAs Zakir Hussain Sikdar, Nurul Huda, Baby Begum, Asif Nazar, Zubair Anam, and Tanjil Hussain, participated in the demonstration. The rally, joined by a large number of party workers and senior leaders carrying Congress flags, emphasized the need for a detailed discussion on the NEET issue in Parliament. The APCC also urged the Centre to withdraw all FIRs against students who protested in Delhi regarding the alleged irregularities in the examination process.
The protest, supervised by the police, proceeded peacefully with Congress leaders stressing that the reported examination irregularities had shaken the confidence of numerous students and families nationwide. The party vowed to sustain its protest until the Union government acknowledged responsibility for the controversy and addressed the integrity concerns raised by students and opposition parties regarding the NEET examination process.
