The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has set up seven specialized teams to supervise the vote counting process for the recently concluded Assembly elections in the state. The counting is scheduled for May 4, with the aim of enhancing on-ground monitoring and ensuring transparency during this critical phase. This strategic move by the party involves maintaining vigilance at counting centers and strongrooms, as well as fostering coordination between candidates and district-level units.
According to a statement by APCC general secretary Jitendra Singh and Assam in-charge Gaurav Gogoi, these teams will be deployed in districts that participated in the April 9 polls. With Assam witnessing an impressive voter turnout of 85.96 percent, the counting process holds significant importance.
Each team has been given specific duties, including inspecting the strongrooms where electronic voting machines (EVMs) are kept, coordinating with party candidates, and engaging regularly with district Congress committees. In Upper Assam, a team led by prominent leaders will oversee districts like Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat.
Leaders in the North Bank region, including Ripun Bora and others, have also been assigned responsibilities for monitoring. Central Assam and the hill districts will be overseen by a team led by Bhimananda Bora and others. Similarly, dedicated teams have been formed for Lower Assam, Barak Valley, and the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) to ensure smooth coordination.
The party emphasizes that team members will visit counting centers before May 4 and actively participate until the counting process is completed. This underscores the Congress party’s commitment to safeguarding electoral procedures and results.
