Assam Congress MLA, Joy Prakash Das, criticized the BJP-led state government for neglecting pressing issues like the recurring flood crisis in the 2026-27 Budget. Das highlighted that despite annual floods devastating large parts of Assam, the Budget lacked a comprehensive plan to address this ongoing disaster. He expressed concern that while floods continue to affect the state, the government’s focus on projects like Metro rail fails to address the immediate needs of the people.
Das accused the state government of misleading the public with announcements lacking practical implementation. He pointed out that important schemes and development projects previously emphasized by the government were notably absent from the latest Budget. Das specifically mentioned the absence of allocations for Char-Chapori development and the neglect of significant regions like Majuli, known for its cultural and river island heritage.
The MLA also criticized the government’s approach to fisheries and water bodies, noting a lack of concrete plans to support fish farmers and improve the livelihoods of those dependent on the sector. Das expressed disappointment, stating that the government’s Budget seemed to rely heavily on rhetoric without effectively addressing the real issues faced by the people.
The Assam government recently presented the 2026-27 Budget in the Assembly, highlighting investments in infrastructure, urban transport, and welfare initiatives.
