Assam Congress President and Lok Sabha member Gaurav Gogoi responded to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s comments regarding his nomination as the President of the India-Philippines Parliamentary Friendship Group. Gogoi stated that the Chief Minister’s remarks do not warrant serious consideration, emphasizing that governance and public welfare should be the CM’s focus rather than political statements on parliamentary roles.
Gogoi further addressed Sarma’s suggestion that he should have been given a responsibility related to Pakistan, noting that such comments reveal the ruling party’s political mindset. He highlighted that his commitment lies with Parliament and the people who elected him, rather than engaging in reactionary politics.
Regarding the formation of Parliamentary Friendship Groups, Gogoi explained that they follow a structured institutional process to enhance India’s global parliamentary engagement. He stressed the importance of concentrating on critical issues like employment, education, and development, rather than political rhetoric or distractions, to address the real concerns of the people of Assam.
Gogoi reiterated his dedication to his parliamentary duties and the reinforcement of India’s democratic institutions. He expressed readiness to fulfill his responsibilities sincerely as the President of the India-Philippines Parliamentary Friendship Group, a role assigned by the Lok Sabha Secretariat for the 18th Lok Sabha term.
