Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu emphasized that the state government rigorously follows set standards when procuring school uniforms. Pegu stated that laboratory tests are conducted to confirm that the polyester and cotton blend in the uniforms meets the required specifications.
He addressed concerns about the alleged overuse of polyester in government-supplied school uniforms, highlighting that the procurement adheres to official guidelines. Pegu mentioned that random samples are regularly tested to ensure the quality of the fabric used in the uniforms.
Pegu clarified that the government strictly prohibits the supply of uniforms made entirely of polyester. He emphasized that the prescribed fabric composition includes approximately 30% cotton, a requirement verified through laboratory examinations.
The minister assured that any suppliers found deviating from the regulations face consequences, emphasizing the government’s commitment to maintaining quality standards in school uniforms. Pegu also responded to health concerns related to polyester, stating that the focus should be on adhering to the specified blend of cotton and polyester.
Pegu reiterated that the government is prepared to investigate any instances where school uniforms fail to meet the prescribed standards. He emphasized ongoing random testing of uniforms supplied to educational institutions to uphold quality assurance.
