Assam continues to face severe flooding, impacting more than 57,000 individuals across eight districts. The recent fatality in Sivasagar has raised the total flood-related deaths in the state to five this year. The affected districts include Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Tinsukia, Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, Udalguri, and Jorhat.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that 22 revenue circles and 298 villages are submerged, with 3,874.84 hectares of crop area also affected. The latest casualty occurred in the Amguri revenue circle of Sivasagar district. The Burhidihing river at Chenimari (Khowang) remains above the danger mark.
Relief efforts are underway with 14 operational relief camps and distribution centers in the affected areas. Currently, 440 people are housed in relief camps, and 3,648 individuals are receiving aid through distribution centers. Livestock has also been impacted, with 37,558 animals affected, primarily in Dhemaji district.
Rescue and relief operations are ongoing in vulnerable areas, while urban flooding persists in parts of Jorhat district. Two revenue circles and various localities are waterlogged, affecting around 1,831 people. District administrations and disaster response agencies are actively monitoring the situation and providing assistance to affected residents.
