Assam Mahila Congress President, Mira Borthakur, criticized former Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhupen Kumar Borah for resigning from the party and potentially joining the BJP. Borthakur labeled Borah as a “betrayer” and an “opportunist” for leaving the Congress for personal political gains. She emphasized her unwavering loyalty to the Congress and vowed never to switch to the BJP under any circumstances.
In response to Borah’s departure, Congress MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed expressed confidence that the party would not be significantly impacted, likening the Congress to an ocean that remains unaffected by individual exits. Ahmed asserted that the Congress, under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi, would secure victory in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.
Bhupen Kumar Borah’s resignation from the Congress, amid speculation of joining the BJP, is viewed as a significant blow to the Opposition party. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s recent visit to Borah’s residence has fueled rumors of his imminent switch to the BJP. Sarma confirmed that Borah is set to formally join the ruling party on February 22, potentially bolstering the BJP’s organizational strength ahead of the state polls.
