Assam’s Agriculture Minister, Pijush Hazarika, has issued a strong warning to fertilizer dealers who are allegedly pressuring farmers to buy unnecessary products along with urea. Hazarika stated that the state government will take strict legal action against those engaging in such unfair trade practices. He emphasized that forcing farmers to purchase additional items is exploitative and unacceptable, urging anyone facing such coercion to report it for immediate action.
Some dealers in certain parts of Assam have been reported to make it compulsory for farmers to purchase multiple products alongside urea, even if they do not need or intend to use them. Hazarika condemned this practice, warning that dealers must cease this behavior or face severe consequences, including potential imprisonment. He assured that the government is dedicated to protecting farmers from exploitation and urged farmers to report any such incidents to the authorities promptly.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests, Hazarika emphasized that the Agriculture Department will closely monitor fertilizer distribution in the state. Any dealers found violating regulations will face appropriate actions to ensure that farmers receive necessary agricultural inputs without coercion or financial burden. The minister stressed that the government will not compromise on this issue and is determined to prevent unfair business practices that exploit cultivators.
