Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika expressed satisfaction with the Gauhati High Court’s decision to deny anticipatory bail to Congress leader Pawan Khera. Hazarika raised concerns about alleged irregularities, such as forging land documents and misrepresentation of facts, that could impact electoral outcomes. He questioned whether Khera acted independently or as part of a larger group and inquired about the funding sources for the activities.
Hazarika also pondered the involvement of any external elements in the case and whether Khera was the main orchestrator or a front for a broader scheme. He highlighted Khera’s attempts to communicate through intermediaries and labeled him as “absconding,” emphasizing that law enforcement agencies would operate within legal boundaries.
The Assam Minister reiterated the commitment of the Assam Police to uphold the rule of law and ensure that all individuals implicated in the case face legal repercussions through due process. The Gauhati High Court’s decision stemmed from an FIR filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, invoking various legal provisions like cheating, forgery, and defamation.
