The Assam Police conducted a significant anti-narcotics operation in Kamrup district, seizing drugs valued at approximately Rs 21.36 crore and apprehending five individuals. Working together, the Kamrup Police and Assam Special Task Force acted on specific intelligence inputs for this operation. A bus from a neighboring state was intercepted at Amingaon near Guwahati, where a search uncovered 2.5 kg of heroin and 8 kg of opium hidden inside the vehicle.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the police teams involved in the operation, sharing details on social media platform X. The arrested suspects are currently undergoing questioning to determine the origin and destination of the drug consignment, along with potential connections to interstate drug trafficking networks. Authorities believe that the seized drugs were likely part of a broader smuggling network operating in the Northeast region.
The recent drug seizure aligns with the Assam government’s intensified efforts against narcotics through the “Assam Against Drugs” initiative. Over the years, Assam Police and allied agencies have conducted numerous operations targeting drug peddlers and trafficking networks across the state. Senior police officials have confirmed that ongoing investigations are in progress, hinting at possible additional arrests as the probe advances.
