One individual has been captured, and authorities are actively pursuing the remaining suspects involved in the smuggling network. Chief Minister Sarma praised the Sribhumi Police for their successful interception during the operation, emphasizing the consequences of engaging with Assam Police. Efforts are ongoing to locate the other individuals associated with the trafficking syndicate.
Photographs shared by the Chief Minister depicted numerous packets of suspected cannabis seized, with law enforcement officials and witnesses present at the scene. Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin and intended destination of the seized consignment. Authorities are also working to identify additional members of the trafficking network and uncover any interstate or cross-border connections related to the illicit activities.
Assam has escalated its efforts in combating narcotics in recent years, with regular operations conducted by law enforcement agencies across the state to dismantle drug trafficking networks. Various illicit substances, including heroin, methamphetamine tablets, and ganja, have been confiscated in successive operations, leading to the arrest of numerous traffickers.
The strategic location of Assam, sharing borders with Bangladesh and Bhutan and serving as the gateway to northeastern states, exposes it to drug trafficking routes originating from the Golden Triangle region. The state government has implemented a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics, employing stringent enforcement measures, intelligence-based operations, inter-agency cooperation, awareness drives, and rehabilitation programs.
Chief Minister Sarma has reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating drug syndicates, emphasizing that the crackdown will persist until the issue is eliminated from the state.
