With the Assam Premier League (APL) player auction approaching, Assam Cricket Association (ACA) president Taranga Gogoi expressed that the league will offer a much-awaited platform for the state’s cricketers. The auction, scheduled for July 19 at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati, will see 275 players vying for spots in the eight franchises for the league’s debut season starting on August 1.
The player pool includes 275 cricketers from Assam, featuring 20 marquee players from the state’s senior domestic circuit and over 250 players in the general category. Gogoi emphasized the league’s importance for local talent, stating that the auction signifies a new era for cricket in Assam.
Highlighting the significance of the league for local talent, Gogoi said the auction marks the beginning of a new chapter for cricket in Assam. He mentioned that cricketers from all districts of Assam have registered, and soon they will know which team they will represent. Gogoi aims for every fan in the state to feel connected to the league, emphasizing the long-awaited platform it provides for Assam’s cricketers.
The marquee list includes established domestic performers from Assam, such as Denish Das, Sibsankar Roy, Sumit Kashyap, Swarupam Purkayastha, and Jitumoni Kalita in the batting and all-rounders category. The bowling contingent features players like Mrinmoy Dutta, Muktar Hussain, Avinav Choudhary, Rahul Singh, Sadak Hussain, and Bhargab Pratim Lakhar. The marquee players also include Saahil Jain, Pradyun Saikia, and Saurav Mousum Dihingia in the batting pool, with Abdul Ajij Kuraishi, Akash Sengupta, and Ayushman Malakar providing all-round options.
The APL is not only expected to offer a competitive franchise tournament but also serve as a pathway for emerging players. The league’s performances are anticipated to assist in identifying and selecting cricketers for the upcoming BCCI domestic season.
