Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) conducted a joint operation in Tripura, seizing narcotic substances valued at Rs 8 crore and apprehending a suspected drug peddler. The operation led to the discovery of a significant amount of methamphetamine tablets in Tripura’s Khowai district.
Security forces, acting on specific intelligence, intercepted a vehicle in the Mungiakami area, resulting in the recovery of around one lakh methamphetamine tablets, also known as Yaba tablets, with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 8 crore. The arrested individual, identified as Kauchar Hussain (28) from Gomati district, was handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation.
The successful operation signifies the ongoing efforts of Assam Rifles and the DRI to combat drug trafficking and protect the region from the increasing threat of narcotics. The seized drugs, suspected to have been smuggled from Myanmar, were intended to be transported into Bangladesh through Mizoram and southern Assam.
Mizoram and Tripura’s geographical proximity to international borders makes them susceptible to cross-border smuggling activities. The illegal consignments, often trafficked through various districts, contain methamphetamine tablets, commonly known as Yaba, which are prohibited in India due to their harmful effects.
