The Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Mizoram Police, confiscated a significant amount of heroin valued at over Rs 7.40 crore in two separate operations. Acting on specific intelligence, the joint team recovered 64 soap cases containing heroin weighing around 837 grams, with an estimated market worth of Rs 6.277 crore.
In a successful operation at Ngopa along the Khawzawl-Sinzawl Road, the authorities found the contraband hidden in a Bolero pickup vehicle. The seized narcotics, suspected to be from Manipur’s Churachandpur district for distribution in Aizawl, were concealed in multiple compartments inside the vehicle.
Another operation at the Seling Check Post led to the arrest of a woman from Manipur’s Chandel district carrying nearly 150.97 grams of heroin, valued at around Rs 1.13 crore. The woman, along with the recovered narcotics, was handed over to the Mizoram Police for further investigation and legal action.
The successful operations underscore the commitment and coordination between the Assam Rifles and other agencies in combating drug trafficking in Mizoram. The Assam Rifles reaffirmed its dedication to securing the India-Myanmar border and ensuring peace and stability in the region.
