The Assam Rifles held commemorative events to honor the heroes of the 1962 Sino-Indian War and celebrate the battalion’s military legacy. These activities aimed to pay tribute to the soldiers’ sacrifices, instilling patriotism and historical awareness among the community. During the conflict, 11 Assam Rifles bravely defended the eastern frontier against Chinese forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Along–Manigong Sector, displaying remarkable courage in challenging conditions.
Lt Col P.A. Rege, a gallant figure during the war, demonstrated exceptional bravery and leadership at Henkar Post, motivating his troops to stand firm against enemy assaults. Recognized for his valor, he was awarded the Vir Chakra for his conspicuous gallantry. As part of the commemoration, the late official’s family, including his son Hemant Rege, visited the historic battlefields of Along, Manigong, and Tadadege.
In a gesture to honor living legends of the conflict, Assam Rifles paid tribute to Hav Jupal Singh (Retd) in his native village and interacted with Sub D.S. Rawat (Retd) in Dehradun district, acknowledging their contributions. These initiatives underscore the commitment to war veterans and preserving the legacy of those who inspire future generations. Additionally, Assam Rifles organized an “Assam Regiment Ex-Servicemen Meet” to reconnect veterans with serving personnel and strengthen camaraderie.
