Assam Rifles, along with civil administration and Manipur Police, have initiated a joint identification and biometric registration program for displaced Myanmar nationals in Kamjong, Manipur. This effort aims to enhance border governance and provide regulated humanitarian aid to those affected by the unrest in Myanmar. The operation covers villages where these individuals have sought temporary refuge.
The documentation process, overseen by a team of officials, police, medical personnel, and Assam Rifles members, involved verifying identities, collecting biometric data, and recording demographic information of the displaced individuals. Approximately 500 people in the target locations were included in this centralized database for administrative and security purposes. This initiative is part of Operation Anchor’s Phase II, focusing on maintaining security and humanitarian oversight along the India-Myanmar Border.
Operation Anchor, a civil-military initiative, aims to balance national security needs with humanitarian assistance for those affected by the unrest in Myanmar. The transition to Phase II emphasizes the importance of accountability by creating a secure biometric database. This database will aid in transparently delivering medical and humanitarian aid, enabling informed policy decisions on border governance and internal security.
