One Assam Rifles jawan lost his life, and four others sustained injuries due to an explosive device blast in Nagaland’s Chumoukedima district. The incident occurred when the device hit a vehicle within an Assam Rifles convoy near Sukhovi. The injured personnel were promptly taken to a government hospital for medical attention, although their current conditions remain undisclosed.
The explosion happened close to Sukhovi, an area where the Assam Rifles operates a training center. Reports indicate that the paramilitary team was traveling in a convoy when the IED detonated, causing significant damage to one of the vehicles. Following the blast, security forces initiated a thorough search operation in the vicinity to apprehend those responsible for the attack. Additional security personnel were deployed to the location, and the area was cordoned off as part of the security measures.
Authorities are yet to officially confirm the exact nature and trigger of the explosion. Investigations are ongoing to determine if the explosive device was planted on the roadside and activated remotely. Further information on the incident is anticipated as the situation unfolds.
The recent IED blast in Nagaland comes shortly after a similar attack in Manipur, where two Assam Rifles personnel were killed in an ambush. The fatalities of Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Havildar Chandra Mohan Singh in the Ukhrul district on July 6 sparked widespread condemnation. Joint efforts by Central and Manipur security forces are actively pursuing the perpetrators of the deadly ambush.
Meanwhile, the NSCN-IM, a prominent Naga insurgent group, has denied involvement in the Manipur incident. The organization emphasized its commitment to the ceasefire agreement with the Central government and the ongoing Indo-Naga peace process. In a statement following the July 6 attack, the NSCN-IM clarified that it had no association with the ambush and reiterated its dedication to peaceful negotiations.
