The Chief of Assam’s regional party, Raijor Dal, and Sivasagar legislator Akhil Gogoi, voiced dissatisfaction with the recent Congress-Raijor Dal meeting outcome regarding seat-sharing for the upcoming state elections. Gogoi criticized the Congress for altering the agreed-upon seat allocations, causing confusion and mistrust among the alliance partners. He emphasized the need for clarity and mutual respect in opposition alliances for effective functioning.
Akhil Gogoi highlighted that the Congress’ unilateral decisions on seat changes, despite requesting only 15 seats, could hinder the collective goal of defeating the BJP. He expressed concerns over repeated delays in finalizing seat-sharing, stating that immediate clarity was crucial to prevent BJP’s advantage. The Raijor Dal leader urged for prompt resolution on seat allocations to maintain alliance unity and focus on the opposition’s objectives.
Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi echoed similar apprehensions, cautioning the Congress to understand ground realities and respect allies’ concerns to combat the BJP effectively. Stressing the significance of unity and timely decisions in countering the ruling party, he warned that any lack of coordination or delays could weaken the opposition’s stance. The ongoing negotiations among opposition parties in Assam face challenges due to disagreements over seat-sharing and coordination, casting doubts on the alliance’s cohesion before the polls.
