Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar expressed skepticism about MS Dhoni making a surprise comeback for Chennai Super Kings in their crucial match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Gavaskar highlighted the risk Dhoni might face due to his long absence from competitive cricket, suggesting that he is unlikely to feature despite fans’ hopes. Emphasizing the importance of players being in form, Gavaskar mentioned the need for a consistent team during such a critical phase of the tournament.

Wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul led Delhi Capitals to a thrilling victory over Rajasthan Royals with a composed 56 off 42 balls. Gavaskar also criticized Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag for what he called a “suicidal” decision to bowl Donovan Ferreira during a crucial phase of the match. He questioned the timing and choice of bowler, suggesting that safer options were overlooked at a pivotal moment.

Mitchell Starc’s impactful performance in the death overs earned praise from Gavaskar for his game-changing spell that helped Delhi Capitals secure victory. Gavaskar highlighted Starc’s ability to take wickets at crucial moments, turning the game in his team’s favor. Despite a challenging start, Starc’s control and crucial wickets proved decisive in the outcome.

Reflecting on the playoff race, Gavaskar noted that Punjab Kings remain strong contenders despite their recent loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore. He expressed confidence in Punjab’s playoff chances, especially considering the inconsistent performances of other teams like Rajasthan Royals. Gavaskar suggested that Punjab’s path to the playoffs could be relatively straightforward if they win their upcoming matches, given the competition’s dynamics.
