The Special Vigilance Unit, Bihar (SVU), apprehended Roshan Kumar, an Assistant Engineer at the District Education Project in Bettiah, for purportedly taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. Kumar allegedly solicited the bribe from a contractor to approve bills for school repair and renovation, including installing submersible pumps in government schools. Following a complaint by the contractor, SVU investigated and caught Kumar red-handed during a trap set in Bettiah.
A special team, led by Deputy Superintendents of Police Bindeshwar Prasad and Sudhir Kumar, conducted the operation resulting in Kumar’s arrest with Rs 5 lakh in cash and a smartwatch seized as evidence. The accused is under interrogation to determine if other department officials were complicit in the bribery scheme. Legal action has been initiated against Kumar under the Prevention of Corruption Act, with ongoing investigations by SVU.
In a separate incident on February 19, SVU arrested Junior Engineer Aman Kumar in Sahibganj for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 9,000. The arrest followed a complaint by Rajkumar Tiwari, accusing the Junior Engineer of demanding a bribe for expediting work related to laying paving blocks in Sahibganj.
