Kenneth Iwamasa, the assistant of Hollywood actor Matthew Perry, has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for his involvement in Perry’s death. Additionally, he was ordered to pay fines of $10,000 and $100 and will be on supervised release for two years. Iwamasa must report to authorities by July 17 to begin serving his sentence.
Iwamasa, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death, was the last of five defendants charged in connection with Perry’s passing to receive his sentence. His attorneys had requested a six-month prison term and six months of home confinement, while prosecutors sought 41 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and the specified fines.
Matthew Perry passed away on October 28, 2023, with the cause of death determined to be the acute effects of ketamine. In his plea agreement, Iwamasa confessed to injecting the actor multiple times leading up to his demise, including three injections on the day of Perry’s death. Perry had requested a large dose of ketamine after already receiving two doses, and upon returning from errands, Iwamasa found Perry deceased in his jacuzzi.
Following the sentencing, Iwamasa addressed Perry’s family and friends in court, expressing deep remorse for his actions. He apologized to them, acknowledging Matthew Perry’s love for them and expressing regret for his illegal behavior. Iwamasa vowed to learn from his mistakes and offered his heartfelt condolences to Perry’s loved ones.
