Athletic Bilbao has officially named Edin Terzic as their new first-team coach, succeeding Ernesto Valverde at the end of the season. Terzic, a 43-year-old coach from Germany, has signed a two-year contract until June 2028, marking his return to coaching after a two-season hiatus following his time at Borussia Dortmund. With experience in Borussia Dortmund’s youth system and as an assistant at Besiktas and West Ham United, Terzic brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role.
The La Liga club confirmed Terzic’s appointment through a social media post, stating that he will be presented as the head coach at the beginning of the upcoming season. Known for his success at Borussia Dortmund, where he nearly clinched the Bundesliga title in 2023 and led the team to the Champions League final the following year, Terzic is valued by Athletic Bilbao for his expertise in developing young players and his strategic approach to the game.
Athletic Bilbao, a club renowned for nurturing local talent, expressed confidence in Terzic’s coaching style, emphasizing his focus on attacking football and tactical adaptability. The club plans to introduce Terzic to its fans and supporters at the conclusion of the current season. Meanwhile, Ernesto Valverde, who recently announced his departure after a decade-long tenure with the club, achieved a milestone of 500 games in charge during their recent victory over Deportivo Alaves.
Terzic, who previously worked alongside Slaven Bilic at Besiktas and West Ham, joins Athletic Bilbao as they aim to finish the season on a high note. Currently positioned eighth in La Liga, the club has four remaining matches to play before the season concludes.
