The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) will organize the first-ever Indian Athletic Awards on June 20 in Delhi. This event aims to acknowledge excellence in Indian athletics and honor those contributing to the sport’s advancement. The awards will recognize athletes, coaches, officials, mentors, state associations, sponsors, and other stakeholders pivotal to India’s success in global athletics.
Most prominent current and former Indian athletes are anticipated to attend the ceremony, emphasizing the significant growth of athletics in the country. Such initiatives are crucial in boosting the confidence of Indian athletes, particularly emerging talents, and fostering a culture of recognition and inspiration within the sport. The awards will encompass ten categories, including Lifetime Achievement Awards, Best Athlete (Male & Female), Best Coach, and Best State Association.
AFI President Bahadur Singh Sagoo highlighted the remarkable progress of Indian athletics in recent years. He emphasized that the Indian Athletic Awards will honor not only medal winners but also the unsung heroes behind the scenes who contribute to strengthening the sport. AFI Senior Vice President Anju Bobby George emphasized the importance of recognizing commitment and resilience across all levels of Indian athletics, from newcomers to established champions and their support networks.
Renowned athlete Neeraj Chopra stressed the significance of initiatives like the Indian Athletic Awards in boosting the morale of young Indian athletes.
