The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) is set to organize the first Indian Athletic Awards on June 20 in Delhi to acknowledge outstanding achievements in Indian athletics. These awards aim to honor athletes, coaches, officials, mentors, state associations, sponsors, and other contributors who have significantly contributed to India’s success in global athletics. The event will feature 10 award categories, including Lifetime Achievement Awards, Best Athlete (Male & Female), Best Coach, Best Technical Official, Best State Association, and Best State Supporting Athletics.
AFI President Bahadur Singh Sagoo expressed that Indian athletics has seen substantial growth in recent years, with athletes excelling on the global stage. The Indian Athletic Awards will not only celebrate medalists but also recognize the efforts of coaches, officials, mentors, associations, and institutions working behind the scenes to enhance the sport in the country. The ceremony anticipates the presence of many current and former top Indian athletes, making it a significant gathering for the nation’s athletics community and a testament to the sport’s rapid development in India.
AFI Senior Vice President Anju Bobby George highlighted that the awards will acknowledge the dedication and perseverance displayed at all levels of Indian athletics.
