Auckland, New Zealand, kicked off New Year 2026 with a dazzling fireworks show at the iconic Sky Tower, making it one of the first major cities worldwide to celebrate. The event drew large crowds to the Central Business District, where people joined in the festive spirit. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon shared New Year wishes, marking the start of global celebrations.

In the hours following Auckland’s festivities, Sydney, Australia, is gearing up for its own New Year’s celebrations with anticipated fireworks at the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Festivities will continue across the globe, from Bali’s beach parties to Singapore’s Marina Bay, New Delhi’s vibrant atmosphere, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa display, London’s Thames River fireworks, and New York’s Times Square ball drop.

While Niue and Samoa, located southwest of Kiribati in the South Pacific, are among the last inhabited places to welcome the new year, Japan is also preparing for traditional sunrise viewing to mark the occasion. The global celebrations signify the start of a new year filled with hope and joy for people worldwide.
