The highlight of the ceremony was the acknowledgment of Ahmed al Ahmed, who courageously confronted one of the attackers and disarmed him. The names of the 15 victims were displayed on the stadium screens with the message “Forever in our hearts” as the first responders led the procession onto the field. Former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist described the emotional tribute as a fitting honor for the heroes of the nation.
Security measures were intensified for the SCG Test, with uniformed and mounted police, as well as public order and riot squad officers, ensuring the safety of the venue.
