An Australian artist and a master coppersmith from India have joined forces for an exhibition called ‘Analogue and Alchemy’ to honor a centuries-old metalworking tradition, emphasizing the deepening cultural ties between the two countries.
The exhibition features Australian artist Elliot Bastianon, known for his innovative metalworking techniques, collaborating with Punjab’s master coopersmith Hari Krishan, who upholds the UNESCO-recognized Thathera tradition of handcrafted copper and brass work.
Through this partnership, the artists explore the fusion of heritage and innovation, illustrating how traditional craftsmanship can inspire fresh forms of artistic expression while safeguarding endangered artisanal practices.
This collaborative showcase not only strengthens cultural bonds between India and Australia but also highlights the significance of creative alliances in preserving cultural heritage and fostering contemporary artistic endeavors.
In a statement, the Australian High Commission in India praised the collaboration, emphasizing how it merges contemporary sculptural practices with the revered Thathera craft, underscoring the importance of international creative partnerships in sustaining cultural legacies and promoting artistic ingenuity.
