Australian captain Mitchell Marsh expressed confidence in the team’s readiness despite the quick transition from the Big Bash League (BBL) Final to the upcoming Pakistan T20I series in Lahore. Marsh, along with seven other players, participated in the BBL Final on Sunday and arrived in Lahore just 24 hours before the series opener. However, Marsh emphasized that the team is focused on the crucial tri-series as part of their preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, starting on February 7.
“The majority of the group have been preparing in Dubai; other guys have been preparing by playing games throughout the Big Bash. We’re ready to go, and we’re looking forward to a great series,” Marsh stated, highlighting the varied preparation methods within the team. The absence of key players like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, and Glenn Maxwell due to fitness concerns was also addressed by Marsh, confirming their return for the T20 World Cup match in Sri Lanka.
Marsh commended Pakistan’s fast bowling prowess and the talents of players like Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam, acknowledging the challenge of playing in unfamiliar conditions. He expressed excitement about facing Pakistan, recognizing the quality of their cricketers and emphasizing the team’s preparedness for the upcoming matches. “Pakistan has a great history of fast bowlers. No doubt we’ll be looking forward to that challenge, especially obviously. He’s an amazing bowler, and it’s going to be a great challenge for our group,” Marsh remarked.
Australia is set to kick off their World Cup campaign on February 11 in Colombo, marking the beginning of their journey in the prestigious tournament.
