Australian police have arrested a 26-year-old man from New South Wales for attempting to smuggle 20 kg of heroin into the country from Thailand. The man was caught during a baggage examination at Sydney Airport after arriving on a flight from Bangkok. The heroin, valued at 10 million Australian dollars, was found in 34 vacuum-sealed bags.
The Australian Border Force (ABF) and Australian Federal Police (AFP) collaborated on the case, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime groups exploiting international travel routes for illegal activities. This incident follows a similar case in December when a New Zealand national was charged for smuggling 21 kg of heroin into Australia from Thailand.
Authorities seized the heroin, which had an estimated value of over 10 million Australian dollars and could have supplied around 100,000 street-level deals. Both cases underscore the vigilance of law enforcement agencies in intercepting illegal drug trafficking attempts.
