Authorities in Maharashtra have announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in multiple districts following a heavy rainfall alert issued by the India Meteorological Department. District collectors have taken emergency measures to address the situation.
The IMD has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for Thane district on July 7, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall with strong gusty winds. Low-lying areas are experiencing severe waterlogging due to continuous rain, prompting the closure of Anganwadis, schools, and colleges to ensure safety from potential rain-related disasters.
Nashik is expected to face extremely heavy rainfall, particularly in rural areas like Trimbakeshwar, Igatpuri, Peth, and Dindori. As a precautionary measure, schools and colleges in five talukas of Nashik, along with weekly local markets, will remain closed. The Nashik Municipal Corporation has also decided to keep all schools shut for the day.
In Palghar district, where torrential rains have caused havoc, schools will remain closed as the weather forecast indicates no relief from heavy rainfall. Similarly, specific regions in Pune district, including Maval, Mulshi, Bhor, Velhe, and Ambegaon talukas, will see school closures due to the heavy rain alert.
Under the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation jurisdiction, all schools will observe a holiday, while educational institutions in Ratnagiri district will also remain closed due to the severe weather conditions.
