Authorities in Ahmedabad took action on Sunday by demolishing illegally constructed structures at a firecracker factory where a recent explosion resulted in the death of nine individuals. This move comes as part of a broader effort to address unauthorized firecracker manufacturing units in the city. The Gujarat Police, under the direction of key officials, conducted the demolition at the site in Vastral village following the tragic incident.
The police disclosed that the demolition was carried out at the location of the explosion that occurred on Saturday, situated in Vastral village under the jurisdiction of Ramol Police Station. The operation was overseen by Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut, Joint Police Commissioner Jaipal Singh Rathore, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Mayur Patil. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the unauthorized structure at the site, with ongoing investigations and actions against other illicit firecracker factories in progress.
Following the explosion at the ‘New Gujarat Fire Works’ unit, which resulted in casualties and injuries, a series of measures have been implemented. The factory, allegedly operating without a valid license, had resumed production to meet demands for the upcoming Ganesh festival. The police have arrested the operators and are scrutinizing the involvement of other individuals, including compliance with safety protocols and the source of explosives.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident, involving various agencies and experts. The team is expected to submit a progress report within 10 days. As part of the ongoing crackdown on illegal firecracker manufacturing units, authorities are intensifying inspections and sealing unauthorized facilities in peripheral areas of Ahmedabad.
