Avataar, an AI-native transformation company, has introduced Varya, a video-generation model supported by IndiaAI Mission, aiming to provide affordable and relevant video AI for India’s next generation users. Varya utilizes a distillation technique that streamlines video generation from 50 steps to just 4 steps, offering video production at Rs 0.48 per second, which is up to 10 times more cost-effective than many global video models, as stated by the Ministry of Electronics & IT.
Avataar, one of the firms chosen by the IndiaAI Mission for developing indigenous foundational AI capabilities, leveraged subsidized national AI compute infrastructure to develop Varya. The product is centered on a straightforward concept: Idea → Video → Story, enabling users to input an idea, upload an image, create a video, and extend the narrative through additional clips, according to the ministry’s announcement.
The launch event, graced by S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in conjunction with Avataar’s leadership team, emphasized Varya’s design tailored to Indian contexts. Varya is specifically engineered to comprehend and produce culturally diverse visual content encompassing India’s regions, festivals, communities, food, clothing, public spaces, and daily life, the ministry highlighted.
