The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) overseen by the National Health Authority (NHA) has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 90 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHAs) nationwide. Uttar Pradesh leads with over 15.3 crore ABHAs, followed by Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Bihar, and West Bengal with substantial numbers.
The success of the ABDM is evident with notable contributions from states like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Karnataka, showcasing the widespread adoption of digital health services. This achievement signifies a crucial advancement towards establishing a connected, interoperable, and citizen-centric digital health ecosystem in India.
The growth in ABHA creation has been consistent since the launch of ABDM, with a calendar year basis showing a steady increase from 14.7 crore in 2021 to 90 crore in 2026. Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO of the National Health Authority, emphasized the importance of ABHA in empowering citizens with secure access to their health information, enabling continuity of care and enhancing the healthcare delivery system.
As the adoption of ABDM deepens, ABHA will play a vital role in ensuring continuity of care, reducing reliance on physical records, and promoting a more seamless and transparent healthcare system. Notably, regions like Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu have achieved full saturation in ABHA creation.
Females account for nearly half of all ABHAs created, representing 49.75% of total ABHA holders, a significant step towards empowering women with digital access to their health records. ABHA facilitates the digital linking of health records across various healthcare facilities, enabling secure sharing of health information with healthcare providers, thereby enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality.
