Pakistan has reinstated Babar Azam as the Test captain for the upcoming tours of the West Indies and England. The squads were revealed by the Pakistan Men’s National Selection Committee at a press conference in Lahore. Babar will lead the team in the two-Test series against the West Indies from July 25 to August 6 and the three-Test series in England from August 19 to September 13.
For the West Indies tour, a 16-member squad has been announced, while a 17-member group has been selected for the England series. Saud Shakeel’s inclusion in the England squad is subject to his fitness. Additionally, four uncapped players have been given opportunities in the squads to introduce fresh talent into Pakistan’s Test setup.
Babar Azam’s reappointment as captain signifies a notable shift in Pakistan’s leadership landscape. After resigning from all formats in November 2023 following the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, he briefly returned as the ODI and T20I captain in March 2024. However, his second stint ended in October 2024, leading to his return to the Test captaincy for the challenging tours against the West Indies and England.
