The District and Sessions Judge’s Court in Assam’s Kamrup district is set to review bail pleas on Thursday from all five individuals involved in the Zubeen Garg case. The accused, including Shyamkanu Mahanta and Amritprabha Mahanta, have requested bail, citing their cooperation with the investigation and the progress made. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) charge sheet named five individuals, outlining their alleged roles in the events leading to Zubeen’s death.
The court hearing holds significance following the submission of the SIT charge sheet, which detailed the accused’s involvement in the case. The charge sheet includes witness statements, forensic findings, and electronic records. The accused have refuted the allegations and asserted their innocence. Singapore Police recently stated that Zubeen Garg’s death was not suspicious, attributing it to drowning.
The bail plea follows Singapore Police ruling out foul play in Garg’s demise. Witness accounts revealed Garg’s intoxication on a yacht before his drowning. Garg, known to have hypertension and epilepsy, had traces of medication for these conditions in his blood. The captain of the yacht testified that Garg, visibly intoxicated, entered the water without a life jacket. Witness statements indicated Garg entered the water voluntarily, with no suicidal intent.
