Leading Baloch human rights defender Mir Yar Baloch criticized the observance of ‘Pakistan Day’ as fake, emphasizing that the decision to cancel the military parade by Pakistani authorities indicates growing insecurity and internal pressure. He stated that the people of the Republic of Balochistan firmly oppose the day celebrated by Pakistan as its ‘Defence Day’. This year, the absence of the traditional military display on March 23 was notable, with security concerns prevailing and leaders addressing the nation from secure locations.
Highlighting the significance of Pakistan’s 23rd March parade as a showcase of military power, Mir noted the stark difference in this year’s subdued atmosphere. Instead of the usual display of tanks and jets, the country experienced uncertainty and security fears, with leaders opting for indoor addresses. Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister chose to deliver his message from the safety of his drawing room, avoiding public gatherings.
Mir criticized the Pakistani leadership for neglecting pressing issues such as economic challenges, political instability, enforced disappearances, and unrest in various provinces. He pointed out the disparity between threats issued from secure locations and the communities enduring military operations and disappearances. The subdued observance of Pakistan Day, according to Mir, reflects caution and fear among the country’s leadership, symbolizing internal pressure and uncertainty.
