The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has revealed that Mahrang Baloch, a central leader, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for the second time. This announcement follows a recent court decision in Pakistan that sentenced Mahrang Baloch and three others to life imprisonment, sparking global criticism.
The BYC disclosed that the nomination occurred in January 2026 but was not publicized then due to organizational policy. The BYC emphasized that Mahrang Baloch’s nomination signifies a peaceful and rights-based struggle, contrasting with what they perceive as punitive actions by the state.
According to the BYC, Baloch leaders are facing unfounded charges and opaque legal proceedings, allegedly orchestrated to stifle dissent against human rights abuses in Balochistan. The organization urged international bodies to address the deteriorating human rights situation in the region and advocate for the release of imprisoned activists.
The Baloch Voice for Justice (BVJ) highlighted the significance of Mahrang Baloch’s repeated Nobel Peace Prize nomination amid legal persecution by the Pakistani state. The BVJ called for tangible actions to safeguard human rights defenders, secure the release of activists, and end impunity in Balochistan.
