The Baloch National Movement (BNM) conducted peaceful protests worldwide to commemorate the 28th anniversary of Pakistan’s nuclear tests in Balochistan’s Chagai district. In South Korea’s Busan, the group organized a peaceful demonstration against the 1998 nuclear tests in Chagai. Speeches in English and Korean were delivered to raise awareness about the long-lasting effects on the people of Chagai.
Participants at the demonstration denounced nuclear injustice and distributed informational pamphlets highlighting the severe health issues and environmental destruction caused by radiation in the affected areas. The BNM’s campaigns extended to cities in the United Kingdom, including London, Manchester, and Cambridge, emphasizing the detrimental impact of Pakistan’s nuclear tests in Balochistan.
The group aimed to draw global attention to the ongoing repercussions of the nuclear tests in Balochistan, advocating for justice for the victims, environmental restoration, and accountability. Tara Chand, President of the Baloch American Congress, described May 28 as a dark day in Balochistan’s history, urging the international community to acknowledge Pakistan as a “reactionary and terrorist state” and to push for the removal of its nuclear weapons.
