The Baloch National Movement (BNM) has raised concerns over the deteriorating human rights situation in Balochistan, attributing it to the silence of the international community. Accusing the Pakistani Army of conducting indiscriminate attacks on unarmed civilians in the region, the BNM labeled these actions as “state terrorism” and highlighted the alleged systematic genocide of Baloch civilians. The group emphasized the urgent need for international intervention to address the escalating crisis.
The BNM reported that Pakistani forces had extrajudicially killed 17 individuals in Balochistan within a week and highlighted the prevalence of enforced disappearances in various districts of the province. The group also pointed out the continuous shelling of civilian areas by Pakistani army gunship helicopters. Since the occupation of Balochistan by Pakistan in 1948, the BNM stated that the province has faced persistent military aggression, with a focus on suppressing political dissent through violent means.
Describing the situation as a “calculated policy of Baloch genocide,” the BNM accused Pakistani authorities of systematically destroying Balochistan politically, culturally, socially, and economically. The group cited instances of villages being ravaged and mass forced displacements occurring across multiple districts. The BNM highlighted the plight of families fleeing to Western Balochistan due to ongoing raids, disappearances, and killings, leading to severe economic and social challenges for the displaced individuals.
The BNM urged the international community to recognize Balochistan as a “war-torn, disputed territory” and intervene promptly to address the crisis and protect the rights of the Baloch people.
