The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has expressed serious concerns regarding the delay in the legal process and judicial independence in Pakistan. The BYC highlighted the case of its chief organizer, Mahrang Baloch, and other leaders whose bail applications were heard by Balochistan’s High Court on December 17, 2025. Despite the completion of the defense’s arguments and the lack of concrete evidence from the prosecution justifying continued detention, the court has not yet announced a decision after nearly three months.
The BYC emphasized that in Pakistan, decisions in reserved bail matters are typically made within days or weeks, underscoring the significance of timely judicial actions. The delay in this case, according to the BYC, goes beyond procedural issues, impacting fundamental rights, personal liberty, and public trust in the judiciary. The organization stressed the importance of transparent, independent, and timely judicial proceedings to uphold constitutional rights for all citizens.
Recently, a Pakistani court acquitted BYC Deputy Organiser Lala Abdul Wahab Baloch and 11 other activists after a prolonged and politically motivated trial. The BYC welcomed this legal relief, citing the prosecution’s failure to substantiate charges as grounds for acquittal. Despite this positive development, the BYC highlighted that several other leaders, including Mahrang Baloch, remain detained, raising concerns about justice, prolonged incarceration, and the potential misuse of legal processes for political suppression.
