The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has announced the observance of ‘Baloch Genocide Remembrance Day’ on January 25. The committee urged the global Baloch community to engage in various activities like protests, seminars, and cultural events to mark the day. BYC highlighted that the genocide against the Baloch people encompasses not only direct killings but also systematic erasure of their identity through various means.
Programs are scheduled to take place on January 25 across Balochistan and worldwide to commemorate Baloch Genocide Remembrance Day. BYC emphasized that the genocide against the Baloch people began with targeted actions against their identity. The committee pointed out that genocide can manifest in different forms, including neglect, disease, economic exploitation, and psychological trauma, alongside direct violence.
BYC accused that the ongoing genocide against the Baloch people involves targeted killings, enforced disappearances, denial of healthcare, economic exploitation, and psychological torture. The committee highlighted the significance of January 25, designated as Baloch Genocide Remembrance Day in 2024, to raise awareness about the plight of the Baloch nation. The day serves as a reminder of the tragic events of January 25, 2014, when mutilated bodies of disappeared Baloch youth were discovered in Balochistan.
BYC emphasized that the mass graves in Totak continue to symbolize the tragedy, with families still awaiting the identification of their loved ones. The committee stressed that January 25 symbolically represents the acts of genocide against the Baloch people. The statement recalled a gathering in Dalbandin last year, where the Baloch nation united against the exploitation of their land and resources, denouncing the ongoing genocide.
Balochistan continues to face severe human rights violations by Pakistani authorities, who are accused of supporting death squads for enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of Baloch people.
