The Balochistan government has temporarily halted mobile phone and internet services in Quetta to ensure security during the Muharram processions. The seventh Muharram procession in Quetta took place under tight security measures. This suspension of mobile and internet services was a precautionary step to address security concerns and safeguard participants in the religious gatherings.
Strict security arrangements were put in place in Quetta, with the deployment of police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel at key entry and exit points of the city. Additionally, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has devised a security plan for the 9th and 10th Muharram observance in the province. Partial suspension of mobile phone services will be enforced in selected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to maintain law and order during the religious events.
Residents in Lower South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been grappling with a complete suspension of mobile internet services for the past two months. They have urged the federal government and relevant authorities to restore mobile internet services promptly. The lack of internet access in various areas has severely impacted daily life and communication for thousands of people.
Students and the business community have also been significantly affected by the internet suspension. Students are facing challenges in accessing online learning materials and educational resources, while businesses are struggling to conduct operations that rely heavily on internet-based services. The disruption has hindered online courses, academic research, digital payments, and communication with suppliers and customers.
