Cyberabad police apprehended Bandi Bhagirath in connection with a POCSO case, while his father, Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay, asserted that Bhagirath voluntarily presented himself to the authorities. Sanjay stated on social media that Bhagirath, accompanied by two lawyers, visited Pet Basheerabad Police Station for questioning. This development followed the police’s earlier announcement of Bhagirath’s arrest at the APPA junction, Narsingi, and subsequent transfer to Pet Basheerabad Police Station for a case involving the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl.
Preparations were underway to present Bhagirath before a magistrate in Medchal as the police continued their interrogation. The sequence of events unfolded after the Telangana High Court denied Bhagirath interim protection from arrest in the case. In a post on social media platform ‘X,’ Bandi Sanjay reiterated that his son cooperated with the police voluntarily, emphasizing the principle of equality before the law for all individuals, including his own family members.
The Telangana High Court’s refusal to grant interim protection to Bhagirath came after a lengthy hearing that extended late into the night. Justice T. Madhavi Devi expressed her inclination to make a decision after reviewing the victim’s statement, signaling a potential ruling in the upcoming week. The case against Bhagirath, registered under the POCSO Act, alleged sexual assault on a minor girl, leading to the invocation of stringent provisions under the law.
