Bandi Bhagirath, the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, has filed for interim bail in a POCSO case at the Telangana High Court. The case, involving alleged sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl, was registered on May 8 at Pet Basheerabad Police Station. Bhagirath, 25, had previously filed a complaint against the girl and her parents for extortion.
A complaint by the victim’s mother led to the registration of the case under the POCSO Act. Bandi Sanjay has refuted the allegations against his son, attributing them to political rivals. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed the DGP to investigate the matter promptly, expressing concern over the delay in action since May 8.
Following the Chief Minister’s directive, special teams have been formed to investigate the case. The Cyberabad Police Commissioner has assigned the Deputy Commissioner of Police Ritiraj to oversee the investigation personally. The police have recorded the victim’s statement and are gathering further information to locate the accused, who is currently absconding.
