Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana expressed disappointment as her team fell short by 15 to 20 runs and missed crucial opportunities during India’s chase in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup match. Despite posting 136/8, Bangladesh couldn’t capitalize on chances during India’s innings, allowing the hosts to secure a five-wicket victory with 19 balls remaining.
Reflecting on the loss, Nigar highlighted the missed opportunities in the field as a significant factor behind the outcome. She mentioned that despite creating chances, Bangladesh couldn’t convert them into wickets, ultimately affecting the game’s result.
Bangladesh’s total was anchored by contributions from Nigar and opener Juairiya Ferdous. Although Ferdous scored 33 and Sobhana Mostary added 22 in a 51-run partnership, Bangladesh failed to build on a promising start and finished below a competitive total. Nigar, with an aggressive 32 off 24 balls, tried to provide momentum in the middle overs but acknowledged the team’s inability to accelerate towards the end.
India, led by Shafali Verma’s quick 53, comfortably chased the target. Bangladesh managed to pick a few wickets in the middle overs, but India’s solid performance led to their victory. Nigar mentioned that the team’s message during that phase was to stay calm and believe in overturning the game’s momentum.
Despite the defeat, Nigar expressed pride in her team’s growth during their first major tour of England. She emphasized the positive impact of young players’ performances, indicating progress for the team’s future development. Nigar acknowledged the missed opportunity for success but commended the team’s overall effort and growth.
